Here is our last grouping of some of the original songs of Bill Morrissey. I talk about my feelings on Bill’s music a bit during the outro on this show so I won’t bore you here, just know that if you’re unfamiliar with this stuff, it is among the finest of any songwriter of any genre anywhere. Buy his albums, there is not a dud in the batch.  Find his book Edson, a beautiful novel about finding your way as you grow older from the perspective of an aging New England singer-songwriter. If you like the imagery painted during his song ‘Small Town on the River’ then you’ll love a novel-length version with plot and characters, just a beautiful story. He was purportedly working on a second. Below you’ll find links to his two main websites and I’ll spare you the many links to some very good articles on his life and death, you can find a host of great links already up on his site. We’ll get to volume 4 in good time, it will feature some of the many great covers Bill has done in various settings over his career. Next time will be a mix show, thanks for listening!

Part 2 of our look at the late, great Bill Morrissey's songs and performances samples the songs of his 3rd, 4th & 5th albums called North, Standing Eight & Inside respectively, all exceptional works.  Most are solo acoustic performances save for the Barnstormer Theater tracks which include some of the accompaniment from folks who would go on the form 'The Churchkeys' with Bill for covers shows up north a few years later (which we'll look at later in this series).

15)  OUTRO
Here is the first in a series in tribute to one of my favorite singer-songwriters Bill Morrissey. Bill passed July 23rd in a hotel room in Georgia on his way from a house concert. My first contact with his wit and craft was through a recording of an early 1986 concert of his and his first album on reckless Records, self-titled.  I've read that he wrote a lot of those songs while on various jobs around the country and his stories reflect some of that but on a larger note both songs and stories illuminate a world that would set me dreaming while I lived in a farm house by myself in the snow-covered country above the Blue Mountain range in Pennsylvania. It got to the point were I actually took a winter vacation to new Hampshire not to ski but to drive on back roads. Bill rerecorded that first album after signing to Philo and the success of that third album Standing Eight and although perfect to the ear, I always preferred the pathos on that original vinyl version of the first album.

Today we hear my reconstruction of Bill's first album using cuts from that 1986 live show and filled in with tracks from the out-of-print album. Next time we'll start with his second album North and move on from there.
